Glioblastoma

Hello. My mom 75 years old was working full time until January 17 2017.  She had a cold and severe fever blisters on lips and nose. Went to dr fir symptoms and mentioned she was having trouble writing. She was sent to ER fir stroke protocol. No signs of stroke. Referred her to dr in Seattle 2 weeks later.  in the meantime started dragging leg slurring speech.  Feb 17 mri they find tumor left side.  Feb 23 using cane speech worse right arm losing use.  Feb 27. Biopsy.  Aggressive cancer filled tumor glioblastoma.   Today march 19tb needs help with everything. Speech is no longer understandable right side useless. No bladder control. Soiled self for first time.    Man, I just can't. Believe how fast this has happened.  We are doing 3 week course radiation no chemo.   I am frustrated because not one dr has given us an idea of time preci time. Is it weeks? 6 months? A year?   I don't know how to plan. Do I stay,  go home fir awhile ugh.  Any one else have similar story?  Any idea?    She is sleeping more every day. Dexamethasone . No other medications.  Thanks for letting me ramble.  It's not often in life you run into something so scary and foreign and nobody has answers.      Heather:)

  • Hello Heather,

I'm so sorry to hear about Mum's news and that things have progressed so quickly. I'm sure that this is a very scary and uncertain time for you.

Is Mum in hospital or are you taking care of her at home? Whilst the Dr's may not be able to give you a time scale of what to expect with Mum's illness, I'm sure that if you were able to talk with a health professional involved in Mum's care, they would be able to give you some information that would help you decide if it's right for you to stay close to Mum right now.

We do also have some information about gliomas on our website which I have linked for you.

Please feel free to come and post here anytime Heather. If you have questions we will do our best to try and help or if you feel the need to offload or just chat then you are always welcome.

    Keep us updated.

    Best wishes,
