Meds to relieve pain

my husband has stage IV adenocarcinoma with bone mestastasis, mostly in his left femur, otherwise he is asymtomatic, no cough, etc. During the past two weeks he has tried patches, morphine solution, targin.....all of which has led him to have hallucinations and mental anxiety. Doctor advised leaving off opiates and yesterday prescribed nolotil, paracetamol and corticoid. He was painfree with greater mobility and sleeping well for 2 nights. Now he has a bit of pain in his legs and is afraid to take the fentanyl the doctor prescribed for pain. Also he began treatment today with nivomulab. The hallucinations were so terrible for two nights that he doesnt trust what anybody says.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Alicantina although I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and what he has been going through lately.

I hope you get to meet other members who may have been in this situation with their loved ones or have had experience with these medications soon but I would really recommend giving our cancer nurses a call about this tomorrow. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and you can chat to them Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Do also keep your husband's medical team or GP updated with what's going on as well, especially if he is scared or refusing to take what has been prescribed for him. I hope the hallucinations and pain disappear soon Ali and remember that we're always here if you need us.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
