New diagnosis

My ex and father of my daughter was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He's getting surgery so starting treatment next week. We've remained close and this has come as major shock to us all. My heart breaks for my lovely girl. I'm very frightened about what's to come. I'm trying not to think to far ahead but have worked in hospital/care environments where I've seen things that are not helpful to know about. I want to be supportive to him as well. Very difficult and sad. D

  • Welcome to the forum Dawn although I'm sorry to hear that your ex has been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

It's great you want to support him and I'm sure just knowing you are there if he needs you will be of great comfort to him at this time. Also knowledge about what he is dealing with can help a cancer diagnosis become slightly less scary so I have included some general information about bowel cancer from our website here if you want to have a look.

It's really good you're trying not to look too far ahead but can understand how difficult that may be at times but you are not alone. Many members on the forum have been where you are now when supporting their friends and loved ones on their cancer journeys and hopefully they will be along soon to offer their support and advice. You can also look for other discussions about bowel cancer on the forum by using the 'search forum' option above and chat to our cancer nurses on their freephone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if there is anything playing on your mind.

I hope his treatment goes well Dawn. Do come back and let us know how he's getting on, we'll be thinking of you.

    Kind Regards,
