Osteosarcoma

My son was diagnosed with a tumour a week after his 18th birthday. 18th October 2016 after we thought it was a torn ligament. After many tests and bone biopsy 7th November we got the news it was cancer a rare bone cancer osteosarcoma. Me and my son have never been so scared but I told him from the start do not shut me out talk to me otherwise I couldn't cope with that as we're very close.  Cancer is a whole new world to us I've never had to deal with it before.  10 weeks of having chemotherapy were waiting what this week brings us. There's a meeting about the next step possibly more chemo or go for the operation. My son is at high risk of losing his right leg as osteosarcoma is in his right femur.  We will deal with it together no matter what. Like I've told my son I know it's not what any sporty 18 year old wants to hear but what's a leg compared to ur life.  We're both staying positive and strong for each other.

  • Sorry as you can imagine it's been a crazy few months. Son got to keep his leg after all. Had a lot of his bone replaced but the tumour was all in the knee area. It's was 90% dead from chemo and my son as got 11 weeks left of chemo then 24 weeks of a new treatment mepact once a week day case. He's doing so well and brace he's been my strength in all this and I've been his. There is light at the end of the tunnel. X

  • Thanks for the update, Pinkhair1027.

Fantastic news! I'm so pleased for your son and I'm keeping my fingers crossed he will continue to do well.

All the best to you both,
