Just don't know what to do....

Hello

my mother is very frail, lost heaps of weight now 5 stone. She had MRI scan, seen urologist who advised that there is a tumour on her kidney. Mum said she did not want any treatment or operation. The consultant was kind and considerate and suggested he see her again in 6 months. He was not sure if the tumour is cancerous but advised that an operation would be too dangerous.

Just don't know what I can do to help her. She is very lonely and lives close by so I see her almost every day. I would mive in for a while but she is heavy smoker.... I feel guilty about not wanting to stay over but just cannot stand the smoke!

Also feel she has given up and doesn't want to do anything, she is very tired and sleeps a lot and has very little appetite. I am trying to keep things normal but she is getting very low and anxious. She doesn't want to talk about her illness and is says there is nothing wrong.

I dont know what what to do, any ideas?

  • Hello littlepurplefeather,

So sorry to hear about your mum being too frail to have an operation. It must be heartbreaking for you. It's great that you live close by so you can see her every day and I am sure she appreciates you being around. Don't feel guilty about not wanting to move in with her and it is understandable you don't want to breathe in all that smoke - you live close enough that you can look after her and I am sure she appreciates having you around.

I hope you will get some useful tips from our members on what to do to help her feel a bit better. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you want to talk to someone and ask them for their advice.

    Best wishes,
