My dad had a total gastrectomy back on November, all went well and he was told all of the cancer had been removed. Two week's ago he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. He responded well to antibiotics but a ct scan showed there was still fluid in his lungs in small pockets. They were going to send him home with antibiotics but then decided to put in a chest drain. As the fluid isn't in one place they want to transfer him to Sheffield as they are better equipped to remove it quicker. My dad is worried that this will involve major surgery and he doesn't think that he will cope. I'm pretty sure it won't be, but can anybody tell me how this will be carried out?
