Mother-in-law has Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Hi,

We thought that my mother-in-law had survived her initial breast cancer treatment. However the other day she was diagnosed as having Stage 4 in the Base of her spine.

We are all just a bit lost now. She's coming for Christmas and we would love to make it special for her as we have no idea how long she might have.

What can we do to support her?

  • Hello Silverangel,

I'm so sorry to hear that your Mother in Law has been given this diagnosis. I'm sure that some of our other forum members will be along soon to post their ideas about how you can help to make this Christmas particularly special. In the meantime we do have some information on our website that might help with some of the more practical aspects of coping with cancer over Christmas. You can find the info here

    Sending our best wishes,

  • Hi I think you listen to her worries and show that you will be there for her all the way. Stage 4 is not quite the death sentence it used to be. There a lot of women who are stage 4 and because of current treatments are living over 5 years. I had breast cancer coming up for four years now and during my treatment I met many women who are living way beyond 5 years with secondary breast cancer. So there is hope. I am sure the oncology team will work out a treatment plan for her. Take care Anne
