Wel reported to oncology nurse what happened yesterday who said she'd had a message from Dr not to take pills again until lowest number below 100. Next thing GP secretary on the phone with an appointment to see GP in half an hour. It appears Dr Kumar oncologist had been on to them

Doctor was lovely. He even asked how I was and said come and see me so I might just do that to check my blood pressure is ok as it has been a little high with all the stress.

Sometimes we are so engrossed with our other half we neglect our own health. Had a lovely afternoon helping out with infant class at the school I used to teach at. Nothing better than children to put everything into perspective.

Yes you are right, it's easy to forget to look after yourself but it's a good idea to go and see your GP again and tell him how you feel.

I did go a few weeks ago and my GP was really nice too. She listened to what I had to say and suggested I should try to take Sertraline which is an anti-depressant. She said that she doesn't normally put people on pills straight away but she thought I needed these and so she started on a low dose and asked me to call again a month later to report on how I felt. I did so and we after another chat we agreed I should stay on this low dose a little longer to see how it goes and we'll look into upping it later if I feel I can't cope. I feel like I am a bit calmer than I was, although of course it doesn't erase the problems... I have also registered to see a councellor as this is a service that I can access via my workplace. The waiting list is very long but at list I'm on it now.

I am glad you have family around you and a new grandson or grand daughter to look forward to welcoming soon! My family lives abroad and it's just my husband and I here as he has no family. We never had children. I am dreading what might happen later on but there you go...

I am lucky as Brian is also one of 4 and his youngest sister and her husband are always there for me as well as his brother. I am an only one but I have close cousins who will also help as will my son and his wife, but we always said we wouldn't put any pressure on our son as we wanted him to have a normal an upbringing as possible with a disabled father. He would do anything for us both though and always says you only have to ask. I suppose I have developed a mentality that just allows me to adapt and get on with the next hurdle, that and my job and friends and family have helped me cope over the years. Cancer doesn't give you the chance to get used to it, it is full on tests, treatment and everything else that goes with it and if you are not used to caring it is very hard. If I wasn't retired I would have had to give up teaching and then I might have become resentful, it is a very fine balance we walk along the tightrope.
