So lost

My partner has prostate cancer with bone mets. he has just spent a week in a hospice for symptom control. all was good for a week or so then his pain really got bad. the nurses have upped all his Meds which have eased the pain but all he does is constantly sleep now. the gp wanted another ct scan due to suspected spinal cord compression and spent 5 hours at the hospital for them to just say "nothing we can do.. go home". I feel so angry.. upset.. annoyed!! why won't they help??

  • Hi Jemma

Know how you feel, it is so frustrating not knowing what to do to help, what is going on and the lack of help at times. The only way to find out is to keep pestering or as the cancer has  metastised is he now on palliative care. My husband's cancer has metastised in his stomach and he is on immuno therapy pills pazopanib which have loads of side effects. He also doesn't want to do anything. Have an appointment on Thursday at 4 pm to collect his next lot of pills. Tried to explain by that time he is tired out but that is the time they give the pills out when he is not seeing the oncologist.

Are you getting help with his care at home? What do the nurses say, they often know more than they say. Thinking of you both and wishing you all the best.

    Hope this helps a little

  • Hi Jemma,

I am right there with you.. angry, upset, annoyed!!.  I have just come back from seeing my husband in hospital. He has been having chemo for his cancer which has metastised and he recently developed a chest infection. Today he was told that it is now showing in his liver, I think. Unfortunately I was not there when they told him this, and he is so spaced out on morphine and other pain control that he was not making sense and was confused as to whether they had said liver or kidneys. Have been unable to get any sense from anyone since and now have to wait until the morning when I can hopefully speak to the consultant.

It's so hard is'nt it? I hope you've got some support at home to help you through.

    Best Wishes

    Tiggy
