Secondary cancer

My dad had a chest xray and a shadow showed up. When he went for a pet scan it showed activity in the lung and bowel. he then had a biopsy in the lung and one in the bowel the bowel came back as cancer the lung was inconclusive. so he had surgery to remove the bowel whilst in hospital he had some complications but thought we had got somewhere we went back last week for a review to be told they have now found it in his liver. He has now had another scan on his lungs to see if that tumour has changed shape and will have mri tomorrow on his liver and pet scan next week. He has been told as long as the lung hasn't changed the next step is chemo.

Sorry  for loads of info it has been so overwhelming as this has all happen in the space of 3 months. Nobody has mentioned time and my dad doesn't really ask any questions as he doesn't want to know but has anybody experienced anything like this. Is the chemo more to extend life or can it get rid of it?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Alilou2600 although I'm sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and the reason it has brought you here.

I can't answer your question about the chemo but our cancer nurses may be able to help. If you have some spare time before your dad's pet scan next week you can give them a quick call on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline, and talk through your dad's situation with them in more detail and ask any questions you may have about the chemo. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m-5p.m.

Please don't apologise for saying so much, that is what the forum is for and I'm sure others who have been in a similar situation themselves or with partners and loved ones will post soon to offer their support and advice.

Come back and let us know what happens.

    Best wishes to you both,
