Cancer support

My dad has multiple cancers had radiotherapy but became to weak so it was halted. Since which time we have been offered no help at all by anyone. I have been nursing him at all since August.  There is always lots of talk about palliative care but the truth is if they think you are coping even though you have no training you are on your own. Would have been nice for someone to even ask if we needed anything I have bought him a bath lift and a Zimmer frame.  This is my experience.

  • That sounds frustrating, is it possible that someone asked your Dad at an earlier stage whether he needed support and he said he didn't?

Either way, his named nurse or his GP will be able to refer you onto your local MacMillan or similar service in your area.

I hope you get the support you need soon.

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Dave your I appreciated your reply
  • Everywhere I go, I ask for help. For us the local hospice has been the most useful with the advice of a specialist nurse and referrals for physiotherapist and equipment. I didn't find the district nurse service of any value but others think they are great.

I also researched online and have registered an enduring power of attorney so that I have legal backing when I advocate for my partner. It does feel like a battle sometimes but at others it just feels good to get the help.

Good luck getting what you need.
