Gran starting oral chemo

Hi,

My Gran (86) has just found out her myeloma is at a symptomatic level again. She starts oral chemo on Tues. She had radiotherapy last time so we have no experience with chemo. What practical support can I give? Will the 1st dose give side effects or does it take a while to build up?

Thanks

  • Hello Kimbobimbo86,

Welcome to our forum. I hope your gran's chemotherapy treatment goes well - today is the day when she starts and fingers crossed she doesn't suffer any side effects.

We have some general information on our website about chemotherapy for myeloma which you can read here.

I would also suggest you ring our lovely nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. They may be able to advise you more specifically on your question on side effects and to guide you as to what practical support you can give.

Hopefully you will also hear from some of our members who have received similar treatment for myeloma so that you can share experiences.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

there are a myriad of different chemo types, do as the administrator suggested, I would get specific advice from a medical professional.

It's  been a couple of weeks now so hopefully she is getting on as well as she can. Let's hope it stops it spreading further.
