what to expect

Hello,

I am looking for advice about cervical cancer.

My long time friend has just told me that she has to start on chemotherapy.  She has kept the fact she has cancer to herself until a couple of days ago (when she broke down and told me) as she is someone who keeps things to herself!

She doesnt have a family around anymore so I have become her support for all things over the past few years.

I dont want to keep asking her questions about her treatment, but would like to know what she will have to go through so I can be prepared and be there for her and understand.

I hope someone can help.

thank you

  • hi scotpod, i would tell her of this site and maybe it will help her, if she doesnt like to talk about it, your very good supporting her like that. im sure someone with the same experience will post,  and help you soon..

  • Can anyone help and advise me?  I did tell her about this site (discreetly, as i dont want her to think/feel i have been talking behind her back) but she doesn't want to "talk" about things on the internet.

I have been looking things up on the internet, but there is so much out there I am at a loss!

I feel so useless for helping her and wish I could understand more of what she will experience/feel etc so I can help her through this.  Maybe I sound a bit selfish wanting to know more for my benefit, but I dont want to upset her by saying or doing the wrong thing through my own ignorance or lack of understanding.

    Help!

  • Hi scotpod,

Maybe I can help :) I have found some general information about cervical cancer on our website here as well as a section about the different types of treatment for cervical cancer here. If there is anything that is a bit confusing or have any questions about you can always chat to our cancer nurses as well. You can call them for free from a UK landline on 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m-5p.m.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,
