mum has been diagnosed with metastic breast cancer to brain

mymum was diagnolsed with braest cancer in 2014. We found out a month ago that it has metastisised to her brain.  She is having surgery this week to remove it but due to its location, ths might not be possible.  Nobody has mentioned timescales yet but I have been looking at statistics on the internet and its frightening stuff.  I love my mum dearly and want to suport her best I can. Shes a very anxious person and its breaking my heart to see her so afraid and to not be able to take it away from her.  I just wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation and could advise me of what toe xpcet after sugery and how to best support my mum. Thanks somuch xx

  • Hello gaynor,

I am so sorry that your mum's cancer has metastised to her brain. You seem to be a great support to your mum and I am sure she appreciates all you are doing for her. Many of our members will tell you to try not to look at statistics - and they often have themselves outlived all the statistics! So try and stay away from google if you can.  If you have any questions, do feel free to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and you can trust that the advice they will give you will be accurate.

We have some information on our website on secondary cancer in the brain which you can read here. If you look here, you will find some information on types of treatment available including surgery which I hope will be helpful.

I hope you will also get to talk to others here who are in a similar situation and that they will be happy to share their story and experience with you. It does help sometimes to speak to others who are going through or have been through this before.

    Best wishes,
