feeling helpless

so fed up just got in from appointment at hospital and they said hubby was too weak to continue  with his first cucle of chemo and  that if he gave him any it would kill him >discovered he had bowel cancer in December he had an emergency op to remove bowel then after loads of tests found out he has esophagus cancer that has spread to his spine it was a different doctor that we saw today and i feel as though they have just given up on us without any support he prescribed some tablets to help with appetite and said to go home and put some weight back on (easier said than done I have a constant struggle trying to tempt him to eat and even drink) when i mentioned that he had been in a lot of pain recently was told the amount of pain relief he was taking already was why my hubby  was confused ...the confusion started prior to cancer diagnosis

  • Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear that your husband is too weak to continue with his chemo at the moment but hopefully the tablets that have been prescribed will help with his appetite and get him back to the point where he can continue.

I see you mentioned that you saw a different doctor. Would it be possible to see the original doctor to express your concerns and discuss your husband's confusion which started prior to the cancer diagnosis? Hopefully you can but if not you can always talk to our specialist cancer nurses about your husband's situation. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040, Tuesday onwards between 9a.m-5p.m and they will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and may be able to advise on how to get your husband to eat and drink more as well.

    I hope this helps.

    Wishing you all the best,
