My lovely mom has tongue cancer

Hello all, I'm new to this. My lovely mom has been told that she has tongue cancer. Tomorrow she will have a 6-8 hour operation to remove half of her tongue, and a neck disection. There are other aspects to this; a 'flap' made from her arm to fashion the missing part of her tongue using her arm muscle and a graft from her belly to cover this up. There'll be a tracheotomy too. I'm devastated and terrified. If you know anyone who has survived this, I'd love to hear from you as some positive messages would be really very welcome at this time.

Thank-you all XXX

  • Welcome to the forum AbijS.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis but I'm glad that she is able to have treatment. I see you mentioned the operation was yesterday. How did it go? I hope it was successful and that your mom is recovering well. I have had a look through our forum and have found another member who has also been in a similar situation to your mom: [@Ruth_c]. Now that I've tagged Ruth in this post she'll hopefully be along soon to offer her support and share her experiences with you.

Stay strong Abi and remember that anytime you need to talk we are here for you.

Wishing you and your mom all the best,
