hello friends

hello friends

as some of you know my dad had a radical prostectomy 7 weeks ago via robotic surgery.  Dad has been in and out of hospital ever since,  he is in tremendous pain and has been passing his stitches through his penis when he wee's. He has no control over his bladder and it instantly empty' when dad stands up  The pain is getting worse, dad is having spontaneous little erections only in the middle of his penis the pain is awful when this happens.  My goodness dad would go mad if he knew I was repeating all this.. the consultant today, he has told dad that it could be one of three things.  1st  there is a blockage,  2nd it's a narrowing of the urethera 3rd some thing untoward in his pelvis.  Have any of you chaps had to deal with this after your surgery.

I'm not getting all hot and bothered that the cancer has spread to dads pelvis because I'm sure there would have been evidence of a spread when they did biopsy of tissues during dads surgery.  We were informed that the cancer had not spread 4 weeks ago...  I suppose there is a slim chance it's a new cancer in his pelvis, but in truth I don't think so.

Thanks xx

  • Hi Kate,

I'm sorry to hear your dad is having a bit of a rough time after surgery. Have you or your father mentioned what he is going through to the doctor? If they are aware of the situation they may able to give him something for the pain and advise how to aid his recovery.

I hope other members who have had this type of surgery will share their experiences with you soon but in the meantime you can always give our nurses a call. They are specialist cancer nurses and will be happy to answer any questions you have about what your dad is going through. If you live in the UK you can call them for free on 0808 800 4040 and they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    I hope this helps.

Wishing you and your dad all the best,

  • Hi Steph

    thank you for your reply..

dads has been in and out of hospital since his surgery.  Last week he had a small camera up his penis to check everything.  It showed a lot of inflammation around the neck of his bladder and lots of mucas build up from surgery.  There was also a few stray stitches floating around, this will explain why he has been passing stitches n his urine.  The urologist is seeing dad again tomorrow morning.  As nothing has changed with regards to pain i  am expecting dad will be sent for a  CT scan for a pelvis/bladder check.
