Nerve damage to leg following pelvic radiotherapy

Hello. My Mum, Elizabeth had a hysterectomy last year for endometrial cancer. Following this she had five weeks of radiotherapy to pelvic area. She was OK during treatment. Now though, eight months after treatment, Neurologists have pretty much confirmed she has nerve damage to her left leg caused by radiotherapy treatment. She is now immobile and probably will be for rest of her life. She is 74yrs old. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Trying to find out just how common or uncommon this is.
