Sad times

Just a small update, thinking out loud as much as anything else really.

I've been sitting here in the house for a few months now looking after my mum. Up until last week she has been sitting up in bed, eating full meals and quite talkative. The last week she has deteriorated rapidly though and is now awake maybe a few minutes at a time only, enough for me to give her some liquids and occasionally for a bite of her fav lemon drizzle cake.

Watching this is just heartbreaking, the strongest, most intelligent and well thought of lady I know can do nothing about this onslaught of cancer.

I'm hoping the latest change in drugs wake her up a little and give her another week or more but it is s close now I guess. 63 years old and had s much more to give to life, she is just an amazing woman.

  • I'm sorry I have nothing useful or helpful to say except - I understand how awful it is to watch a loved one fade before your very eyes. I'm sure you are already doing everything you can to make your mum comfortable and even though she's sleeping so much I'm sure she will know and appreciate your being around. I used to just sit and hold my husbands hand for hours at a time - just squeezing it so he knew he wasn't alone.

    Sending you a virtual hug

  • Our thoughts are with you, it is a struggle watching someone you admire going through a deteriorated state.  Be strong and cherish the moments you have with each other, hopefully for a long time yet.  It's great that she can still treat herself with an occasional lemon drizzle cake.
