Medical question about bladder cancer

My mother was booked in for a TURBT. Her admission notes said 'Keratinising metastatic bladder cancer', which suggests a serious problem. However, the consultant described it to her only as a necessary operation to see if there was any problems in need of treatment. The outcome was that nothing was found and she doesn't have to go back for a year. I'm seriously confused. I don't want to worry her, but I don't want her to be unaware of what is a potentially a serious problem. Is it possible to have metastatic bladder cancer /and/ the all clear on a TURBT?

  • Hi MK, I'm not a medical person, but wanted to welcome you to the forum. I'm sorry to hear that your Mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I have bladder cancer and have had many surgeries and treatments. Having said that, I guess I'm puzzled that it was considered metastatic and then they found an "all clear" on a TURBT. Perhaps if you message the nurses here on the forum in the section, "Ask the Nurses" with your question, they may be able to shed some light on this for you. You can also phone them at the phone number at the bottom of this page during regular office hours, if you live in the UK.

Come back on the forum and let us know how you get along with it. Take care.

  • Hi Lorraine. Thanks for this, I will do as you suggest.
