My mum and dad are both terminally ill - help

Help.. I've not been on here before...We've just been told my dad has a few months left and my mum may be a year or so.. Dad has lung cancer that has spread to neck and jaw and mum has secondary bone cancer of the spine ... This has all happened within six weeks - just feel that all I have is bad news to all that I talk to and can't believe this is happening.....

  • Hi Pebbles, my goodness, you certainly have received a double whammy with this news! I wanted to welcome you to the forum though where you will find people on here to be very caring and supportive. You must be totally overwhelmed on hearing this news. I am so sorry for what you are going through right now, and also for the challenges ahead. I do hope you have other family members around you to support all of you in dealing with this sad news. There are certainly members here who have dealt with caring for loved ones with terminal cancer, including a parent, but I don't recall hearing about both parents at the same time getting a terminal diagnosis. I lost my Dad to cancer several years ago and that was really hard. I was the only family member around to help Mom care for him as the others were living away. I also had 3 young children at the time.

I know that the support you received on this forum is not the same as face to face comfort, but even though its' virtual, it still is a big help, especially when you converse with another person who has dealt with a similar situation as yours. Just writing down your fears, worries, pain of losing both your parents at the same time, will help to get it out there, and even better when someone responds with a virtual hug, or words of comfort. Come back on here and let us know how you are managing. My heart goes out to you.

    Sending hugs.

So so sorry to hear this.I understand completely how you feel and what you are going through. Although I lost my mum very recently I miss her so much. I don't have any advice worthy of such bad news. Only that. Spend as much time with them both. Time is extremely important when the doctors tell you a time frames

    just be there for them.
