is there any hope???

My sister in law is 36 and diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma - she was anorexic before this diagnosis and has also had a liver transplant about 15 yrs ago from Wilsons disease (nothing to do with cancer). She is now in hospital and vomitting blood and on oxygen from a chest infection ... how can anyone go through so much tragedy ! Does anyone else know anyone with this disease and how on earth do i keep up her spirits when she is in so much pain and cannot talk because if she takes oxygen mask off her levels plummet . Really hope that her inner strength can help her :(

  • Hello merlin2008,

Your poor sister in law - it does sound pretty awful what is happening to her and she went through a lot already before that, having to fight anorexia and going through a liver transplant. It must be so difficult for her too not to be able to talk and so hard also for her family watching her.

I hope others will be along soon to give you some suggestions on how to deal with this situation.

    Best wishes,

  • How do you keep her spirits up? I don't know your sister-in-law but wonder why should you keep her spirits up? I mean that in a positive way. Nothing can be worse than people saying "look on the bright side" when there isn't one. Be honest with her. If she enjoys irony and sarcasm use that. If she doesn't just aknowledge that this is bad and seek out anything that might make it, even marginally and temporarily, better. Please don't try to make her be happier for your own sake, share her sadness and pain as much as you can, and when you can't, tell her so.
