I am so sorry to hear about your dad, I hope that you get some comfort from this site. My father also has stage 4 prostate cancer and is a similar age to your dad. His pain may be a side affect of the treatment but my father was luckily spared any side affects. Within a week or so his energy levels had increased significantly - which suggests less energy is being used up in the growth of cancer cells.My dad never told me the results of his latest PSA test results but I would wait till you get these back - they may be very positive.

In my father's case the locations of his secondary tumours mean that it is untreatable and in his case it will be terminal, however, he has been given a prognosis of 18 months to five years.

If your father is anything like mine then it might be difficult to get him to talk about it, but it is probably best to get your specific questions answered by the oncologist. When I discovered that my father had stage 4 cancer and read the stats online I was devistated, but the consultant has really helped clarify a few things and his prognosis is much better than is suggested on most websites.
