Too sick for chemo

My amazing mum has secondary liver cancer with primary unknown she was only diagnosed 18 November and has rapidly got worse. She started chemotherapy last Wednesday but has been very ill from it and has a high temperature with a suspected infection and is now too ill for her next chemotherapy tomorrow. The consultant has said that they need to get the infection gone before anymore chemotherapy and will only consider it if she is strong enough. If they feel she won't be able to handle it they feel she has little time left. We are devastated I have been so positive for mum but feel my world has come crashing down and sometimes can't breathe from sheer panic of what the future holds. I am a mum of two boys with a loving husband and we are trying to be normal and the boys are so excited for Christmas but it's so hard as I'm so worried what might happen over the next days. Has anyone experienced this at the beginning of chemotherapy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Many thanks xxxx

  • I am so sorry to hear about your mum, you must be beside yourself with worry.  I have read on here of people who have had their chemo delayed because of infection.  However, different people, different circumstances.  I do hope you get some answers soon and that your mum is kept comfortable in the meantime.  Please let us know how she is. x

  • Hi Pauline thank you for your lovely reply. Mum is a lot better today and is on oral antibiotics today and if she controls the temperature with these she can go home on Saturday fingers crossed. She can then have chemotherapy in 2 weeks time. She had a liver scan and there are no changes so that's looking hopeful this roller coaster journey is so hard but I will always stay positive as that's the only way I can think. I hope you are ok xxxx
