feeling confused

Hi, just a few qustions, My brother was diagnosed with bladder cancer 7 years ago, a very invasive type. They removed his neo bladder a year ago. A few months ago it came back in his kidney and  1 rib bone. Three weeks later during radiation they discovered it had spread to the liver. After all I have read he has little chances of surviving. They want to do chemo but said he doesn't qualify for the new trial drugs. Should he just enjoy his last days or keep fighting? He has a fever and is in pain. But still wants to live. He is 56. I'm so sad, I should probably quit reading. Thank you

  • Hello jeannie1,

It's not surprising you feel confused and it is such a difficult decision to take. I am sorry to hear your poor brother has a fever and is in pain at the moment. Have you mentioned this to his medical team so they can hopefully control both the pain and the fever?

If you want to talk about all this, don't hesitate to ring our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, it's a free number from UK landlines and their line is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. They do know a lot about cancer and may have some helpful suggestions for you.

Rest assured too that our community is there for you at any time of the day and night, as many here have faced difficult decisions like yours and they may have some tips on how to cope emotionally with all this.
