My mother is having complication with CML.

My mother is having CML since 2002 and is being treated in Indraprastha Apollo since then. She is currently 49years old. She had been on Glivec(Imatnib)She had been living comfortably but from 5 months some complications have started to occur. She had untolerable acidity and Doctor after these 5 months have started Sprycel on dosage 100mg per day.Sprycel had some more side effects like headache and stomach problem and she was not feeling good. My father then took her to another Doctor in Rajiv Gandhi Cancer hospital Delhi. He told him to give the medicine at alternate days. But even after 15days it did no good. Since four days sprycel have been dropped but the headache problem is decreasing but the stomach problem is increasing.
Even Doctors are not able to tell any Cure about it.

.Please can you suggest something else or should we move on to another medicine so that patient could lead a normal life till 13years that she was leading earlier?

  • Hello bhavesgoel07,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! We are sorry to hear about the complications your mum is having at the moment. As your mum is based in India and the treatment where you live may be different from here, I think you should mention all this to your mum's medical team.

I would also suggest you get in touch with a cancer organization that is based in India as they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Here are a couple of organizations that may be of help:

    Cancer Patients Aid Association
Provides information and support to people with cancer. Has branches in several cities. Information on their website is in English.

    Website: www.cpaaindia.org

    The Indian Cancer Society
The society provides food, medicines, transport, prostheses and counselling to cancer patients. It has branches and affiliated groups in many towns and cities. Information on their website is in English.

    Email: ics_mumbai@yahoo.com

    I hope this is useful!
