Brain Tumour

Hi, My dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour 20 months ago. I have seen him go from a strong 6ft healthy man, down to a tiny man who is bedridden and cant do anything for himself. he cant remeber anything propely he doesnt talk, just lies there. This is my dad. this should not be happening byt it is. He should be enjoying his lfe right now spending time with the grandchildren. and today we had to sit down and talk about things like power of attouney and DNR orders etc. It was heartbreaking. how can this happen, why? and why can i do nothing to help my dad. I am heart broken. when will they find a cure???

  • Hi Sad1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I know how you feel as I was in a similar situation with my mother about this time of year several years ago. You ask, why cant you do anything for your dad? I think we all feel so helpless as the reality is, there is nothing much we can do ecept be there for them, even when they do not know we are there. My mother had breast cancer which spread to her brain and she went from being a fit, active lady in such a short time. My father who live in Canada is also in a hospice suffering from the return of his prostate cancer and old age. He is 93. I feel bad that I cant be there to support him and the family but my wife has a lot of health problems and I cant and wont leave her on her own.

Take care, sending best wishes and kind thoughts your way and please keep in contact, Brian.
