Mum has cancer that has spread

Hi,

6 weeks ago we found out my Mum has cancer. It  was a total shock. The only symptom she had was back ache. She has secondary cancer in her spine and they are not sure where the primary cancer is.

We have no idea of a prognosis because Mum does not want to know. I feel so frustrated, confused and lost.

  • Hi MrsD88

Many here will understand your sense of feeling lost, frustrated and confused following your mum's diagnosis.

I hope you will find Cancer Chat a friendly and supportive community where you can come to share your feelings at this difficult time.

Best wishes to you and your mum,

    Jane

  • My mum was diagnosed with end stage liver cancer at 84 yrs old. i was devastated of course but luckily we were close and had discussed EVERYTHING over the years. She had undergone a hysterectony at 80 yrs old after beibg told by her doctor that she had water infections for TWO YEARS! \She had decided at that time that if she ever got anything ales, she would not have surgery/chemo  etc  - too hard at her age. I totallly agreed with her. She came home to my house and was here, pain free for her last 3 weeks. I'm so glad we had discussed what she wanted and had a supportive doctor who understood completely. I am an only child and was with her when she passed peacefully. If there can be such a thing, she had a good death. I miss her every day but I have to be glad that she got the passing she wanted - pain free and peaceful x
