How long wait for chemo for pancreatic cancer, stage 4

Hi, I was just looking for some advice. My dad was sadly diagnosed at the end of July with pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver & is inoperable. He wasn't told until three weeks ago he would need any dentistry done before chemo, he had also hoped to be included in a clinical trial but it closed early. His consultant says his chemo has been held up as a result of him needing dental work & because he couldnt get on the trial.( surely he should have been told to get teeth sorted as soon as he was talking about chemo & you think as there was a chance he wouldn't get on a trial they would have had him ready for normal treatment instead) He has been told prob 2-3 weeks now before chemo starts, as his cannot be cured other people who can be are priority. Has anyone else had or know someone who has had similar delays? I know there is no cure but we have hope that if the chemo works it might give him time. I would be really grateful for anyones experience, thankyou x

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum but sad to see the reason behind it. My husband had a different cancer and did not require dental treatment (he wore dentures) but his oncologist talked him through all the possible reasons that treament with chemo may be delayed as for him it was a  one time opportunity and it needed to be done at the optimum time to help prolong his life.

I hope others will be along to offer their thoughts but during my time on the forum I have come to realise that there are many reasons why treatment can be delayed and only by asking constant questions of the medical team do you learn all the ins and out. Some people also ask for second opinions if they think this ay help.

All the best to you, your Dad and family during this time.Jules54
