My mum and chemo

Hello, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and since has had two operations, we are now awaiting the results from the second operation so that she can start chemo. My mum has been getting pretty low with it all understanably, and I want to make her up a box with things that can help her cope with the chemo and whatever other treatment may be coming her way. Has anyone got any suggestions of things I could put in it for her? I have seen written in some places that ginger tea can help with nausia and some creams are good to put in.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi

What a lovely idea.  When my husband had his chemo he was in the day ward all day.  There was TV but he preferred to sit and either read, sleep or pop to the cafe (took the drip apparatus as well).  I suspect boredom may be a possibility so some music, mags and maybe some nice sweets would be a good idea. The staff looking after my husband were very good at sorting meals/drinks when required and its quite likely that your Mum will be prescribed other medication to help with any sickness that may occur (not everyone suffers from this).  Before his chemo began my husband also had a tour of where he would be receiving his treatment which he found helpful and was able to ask lots of questions so your Mum might be less worried once she knows what and when things are happening.Once chemo is under way (and hope it goes well) and you can see how your Mum feels it would be nice to arrange a treat for when she feels ok, something like a manicure or afternoon tea, perhaps. Hope others will be along soon to offer more ideas and hope your Mum is managing okay.  Jules54
