finding g it hard

My dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma 18 weeks ago he has come to live with me and my husband,I am his sole carer. It has not been easy to say the least, he gets mood swings, he can be irritable and has the odd laugh with me. There is nothing they can do no treatment or anything but he is sleeping about 15hrs a day now, is this normal? I would love to hear from anyone who is going through the same. It is very hard but it is what we do. Thanks for reading jackie

  • Hi Jackie

Welcome to the forum but sad to see the reason behind it.  My husband had Mesothelioma and I would say that extreme fatigue is pretty normal in my experience.  We had a great consultant who was open and frank with us from the outset (husband preferred it this way though did not like talking about it himself) and warned us both that tiredness was caused both by the cancer itnself as well as any pain relief being taken. It is certainly not an easy journey for anyone involved with it but we found the strength to cope with it on a day to day basis.  In the latter stages we asked for, and received, fantastic help from hubby's GP and community nurses. Happy to chat anytime (my frustration bought me to the forum and the virtual support I was given held me together at times). Regards Jules54
