    Hi d4diva

welcome to the forums. Im sorry to see your sister has been diagnosed with cancer.
Im not familiar with the treatment of bowel cancer but I noticed you havent had a reply and I didnt want to just read and run!  There  is a section on the forums (the link should be on the left of your screen) called Ask The Nurses. Why not ask your question there if you dont get a reply here. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
    Wishing you well

  • Hello d4diva,

Inula has given you some good advice - we do have an 'Ask the Nurses' topic area and I am happy to move your thread there if you want to get an answer from our knowledgeable nurses. Just let me know if that's what you'd like to do! You can also ring them on 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

We also have some information on bowel cancer treatments here

Best wishes and welcome to the forum!

  • Hi d4diva,

Sorry to read about your sister's diagnosis. I'm not sure if a hysterectomy is 'normal' procedure for every female, but I had one prior to my bowel Cancer surgery. In fact it was a tandem procedure where the gynaecologist performed the hysterectomy and then the colorectal surgeon carried out his procedure. I did have a large fibroid present which I was told meant my uterus was 'in the way' of the bowel surgery as my tumour was very low in my rectum.

Inula's advice to re-post your question in the ask the nurses section is a good one or it may be worth giving the nurses on the forum a call. Another suggestion is that your sister gives her medical team a call to clarify why the hysterectomy is necessary. It's possibly just down to anatomical logistics.

Please post any time and let us know how your sister is getting on.

    Take care, Jo xx
