Switching treatment

Hi I am hoping someone can help.

Dad has stage 4 nsclc he was dx in feb 2012 stage 3b in feb 2015 brain mets were discovered. He received wbr but we don't know if successful as no scan yet. Dad began docetaxel for the lung cancer on Wednesday, he was deemed fit enough tho how I don't know- he has lost 2st in weight, has trouble eating drinking, gets a lot of nausea, pain s above left eye, tired the list goes on this has all been happening even before wbr it's what led to getting a brain scan. Since the first infusion dad has felt worse swollen ankles, shaky hands, red torso and just feel weak. The oncologist at time of talking about treatment gave 3 options do nothing, chemo or tablet-biological. I am wondering if after 1 infusion of docetaxel dad can change to the tablet and stop chemo? This is 3rd line chemo so no hope of changing chemo.

Also is it possible to get a second opinion from a different oncologist on from the same hospital?

Dad also has angina and a collapsed lung and fluid that hasn't been treated.

  • Hi kirstynic

Sorry to read about your dad's situation. It sounds like you need advice in order to make treatment decisions quite quickly In view of this, I wonder if it might be a good idea to call our nurses?

You can contact them free from UK landlines and most mobile phones on: 0808 800 4040 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Alternatively, you could post this message in our Ask the Nurses section.

However, the nurses won't respond to your post until the middle of next week.

This is because it takes three working days for them to work through the volume of posts they receive.

I hope this helps in some way,

Best wishes to you and your family at this difficult time,

    Jane
