My dad - cancer has spread

My dad who is 85 has had bladder cancer for the last 5 years.  Last year he was so ill that against all doctors advice he had his bladder removed and amazed everyone by surviving.  However he is now back in hospital and a CT scan from Friday has shown that it has now spread to his lungs.  He has been through so much over the last few years it is awful to see the decline, my mum is not in the best of health and I am living in Malta.  Trying to be supportive from afar is very difficult and hard to know what to do for the best.  Does anyone know how lung cancer progresses as we have no news yet from the doctors - nothing happens over the weekend!

  • Hi Scampi, welcome to the forum, but sorry you have a need to be here. I'm so sorry to read about your poor Dad being so sick with this terrible disease. At 85, he certainly doesn't need to be dealing with this, but cancer doesn't pick favorities. You must have been devastated when you heard the cancer has gone to his lung. Its' really difficult to predict how cancer is going to affect a person, since cancers are different and also don't react the same in everyone. Waiting is hard when you really don't know what is going to happen, but unfortunately only his medical team can give you information on his cancer and prognosis. Also, where you don't live close to your parents, that makes it even worse. I know you want the best for your Dad and at 85, this is so hard for him.

Keep us informed as to how your Dad gets along. People on this forum are so supportive and all of us understand what its' like to be dealing with cancer, either as a patient, or a loved one who cares for someone who has it. I know its' hard to have to wait, but perhaps you can contact the nurses here on the forum and maybe they can give you some information.

    Take care.
