Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • George .... been trying to find you for ages and guess I have missed a lot of news. How are things xxxx max xx

  • Hi George

Sorry to read that your daughter is facing op but she has a great Dad who can guide her through treatment (or perhaps you know too much).  How are you keeping yourself?

Despite laptop problems (overheating) am trying to keep in touch as and when I can.  Look after yourself  Jules xx

  • Good morning Jules,

Had an e-mail from my sister in Canada. She has problems with her computer too and had to go to her sons so she could contact me with surprising news. Dad was able to return home late last Friday although very weak. Once again he has proved the experts wrong and I do so admire his determination. So will ring him on Sunday as it's fathers day.

Our exhibition/demonstration day was very sucessful yesterday allthough a very long day. I left home before 8 am and didnt get home until 9.30 pm. Legs felt like lead. But we had a lot of interst and two new member joined and am fairly sure at least three others will as well. Plus two members paid overdue subs. Mrs B said she had a very quiet day for a change as no one to aggravate her

Hope you are able to resolve your laptop problems soon. Am still finding new laptop keyboard layout a problem at time as I keep hitting the wring buttons but it's slowly getting better.

Take care Jules best wishes to you, hubby and family, hugs Brian.

  • Hi George,

I am sorry to read about your daughters forthcoming operation. Just wanted to say that you forum buddies are here for you anytime you want. Take care, best wishes to you and your daughter, Brian.

  • Hi George

sorry to hear your daughter is facing an op.  No doubt you will be on hand to support her having goen through it yourself.

Will keep everything crossed for her.

    Best wishes.

    Gill

  • Hi Brian

Great news about your Dad.  It sounds as though he is often doing things the so called "experts" do not expect.  Hope you do get to speak to him on Sunday.

Good news about the new members and the payment of overdue subs.  There are often one or tow who never seem to get round to paying until they are chased and chased.

You deserve a good rest today having had such a long day even ifit was a good day.

    Best wishes.

    Gill

  • Hi Brian

What great news regarding your Dad - he is a special breed - and it will be lovely that you can chat to him on Father's Day too.

Am treating laptop with kid gloves and hoping for the best for as long as possible though may get son's partner's Dad take a look so if I 'go missing' hope thats the reasons ha ha. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.  Hubby had a very sleepy day yesterday but more with it again today - seems to come in waves so best to take it as it comes.  Suspect the hot weather not great for him (though I am loving the sunshine). Three days off work now so think the back garden (shady part) will be calling me once usual household chores out of the way.  Really looking forward to spending Sunday p.m. at our sons BBQ (we don't have one as hubby has never been an outside dweller).

Wood club day sounds very productive albeit tiring but am sure it was thoroughly enjoyable too. Hope you and Mrs B have a lovely weekend (feet up with nuts).  Best wishes and hugs toyou and all the family. Jules xx

  • Morning Brian,

Glad to hear the good news about your Dad.

What a marvellous old man, but then he comes from an era of such people.

Very easy to stand back and admire.

Have a good relaxing weekend after your busy woodworking time and look after Mrs B.

We don't want you in trouble.

    Hugs

    Annabel. xx

  • Good morning Jules,

Yes, he is one determined guy who just doesn't know the meaning of the word "cant". When we visited him over twenty years ago he actually said to us, there is no such word as CANT. Phoned my sister who lives in this country last night and she had not been home long after attending her best friends funeral so she was pretty weepy. So spent a long time talking to her and hope I cheered her up a bit. How she met her friend was very similar to the friend you have lost. Hope you can get something sorted with your laptop for this forum would not be the same without your input and support. Meant to tell you I went to the nut shop last weekend and they didn't have the size bags of nuts I normally buy so I told Mrs B I would have to buy THE BIG ONE. I am still only about two thirds of the way down the bag at the moment so feeling very "nutty" at present

I hope you enjoy your usual night out at bingo tonight and you and hubby have a pleasant evening. What book are you reading at the moment? As its too hot to work in my garage may carry on with my latest story set way back in Ancient Egypt which is one my granddaughter requested. I am over halfway through it and it starts off with father and daughter archeologists finding the remain of an ancient slave galley out in the desert where the river changed course hundreds of years ago and where the wind has recently uncovered it. The daughter finds a leather bag with slates inside inscribed in ancient Egyptian. As she tries to decipher these the story goes back to ancient times.

Hope you both have a great Sunday at your sons BBQ. Take care, best wishes and hugs to you, hubby and family, Brian.

  • Hi Annabel,

Thanks for the post and yes I will look after Mrs B for there are not many who would put up with me like she does. I find his determination is also showing up in my youngest grandson for he has proven the experts wrong time and time again and it makes me so proud of both of them. Hope your back is getting better, Take care and have a great weekend, hugs, Brian
