Son AML at 19

My son was diagnosed with AML at 19.  Just trying to cope.

  • Hi Merritt,

My son was 19 when he was diagnosed with AML.

What do you mean with needing to learn what to say or do? Do you mean towards your son or doctors or other medical people who are involved?

I'm just asking because I really would like to answer that question, at least share with you how I dealt with it.

  • Hi Margaret67,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

Thank you for your kind offer to share your experiences with other people on Cancer Chat.

I'm sure you sharing about your son will be of great help to others.

    Best wishes

  • Hello fluffyygirl,

I just wanted to welcome you to Cancer Chat. It must be hard for you spending so much time in hospital and obviously your care team are in the best position to guide you and advise you on the best treatment option for you. You have come to the right place to chat to others and I hope you will benefit from hearing about the experience of others with acute myeloid leukaemia. If you want to talk to our cancer nurses, feel free to post on the Ask the Nurses section or to give them a ring on 0808 800 40 40 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will enjoy the forum!

  • I had AML Leukaemia at the age of 28 and I went into remission after 15 weeks and relapsed they called my family and told them twice that I would not make it through the night I am now 62 years old so i think that the treatment has improved for AML or any luekeamia just have faith. Its as hard for the family as it is for Your son god bless hope it all goes well for your son be Strong.
