Tumour in rectum - husband has had treatment but cancer still there. What does this mean?

My husband was diagnosed with a large tumour in the rectum. He had 5 treatments of radiotherapy which affected him badly, the specialist has said it has shrunk a little but there is still cancer round the edge what does this mean.? I would like to say because of his other health problems he can't be operated on

I'm sorry to hear that your husband was diagnosed with a large tumour in his rectum and that he struggled badly with the effects of the treatment he had. It sounds like it's been a very difficult time for you both.

It's difficult for anyone here to say what the results of his treatment may mean, especially as he has other health problems. Do you have a specialist cancer nurse that you can call? They would be best placed to give you some answers about what the next options might be in his care and treatment, as they will have access to all his records and the information from the specialist.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our team of nurses at any point, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you want to speak with them, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Lottie30889 and let us know how you both get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
