Symptom change?

I'm caring for my wife who has stage 4 sclc. Plus brain metastases. Over the last two days she's had to work harder to breathe and is quite fatigued and lethargic in the day. Understandably it's hard work and I think very tiring for her.  Should I be concerned?  Radio therapy is due to start next Thursday followed by combined chemo and immuno.

  • Hi MarkLC,

I am so sorry to hear your wife has been having trouble breathing over the last couple of days and that she is feeling fatigued and lethargic in the day. I can completely understand why you are feeling concerned and it would perhaps be a good idea for peace of mind to ring 111 over the weekend for out of hours medical support. Explain when you call what you have described here, that your wife has had to work harder to breathe in recent days and that she has stage 4 SCLC as well as brain metastases and that you noticed this symptom change in recent days. If you find that things get worse and she needs urgent medical attention, don't hesitate to ring 999. This is something you will also want to flag with her medical team so that they are aware of this latest development.

Wishing her the best of luck for her radiotherapy treatment on Thursday. I hope that the treatment will be effective.

    Best wishes,
