Carer to brother on palliative care

My brother has been put onto palliative care for bowel cancer..i feel my nieces look upon me to keep everybody going..he stays alone..he got a good attitude but i feel down and cant stop thinking whats to come and im sad and scared i dont.know who to turn to

    I'm really sorry to hear your brother is now receiving palliative care for bowel cancer. This must be incredibly difficult but our members are here for you Christine, and hopefully those who have been in a similar position with their siblings, friends or loved ones will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

    I hope this guidance we have about taking care of yourself will help you at this time but if you would like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you at this very challenging time.

    Be kind to yourself Christine, and remember that with us by your side you don't have to go through this alone.

    Thank you Steph..I feel I dont know who to turn to..Im the strong auntie and his girls turn to me ..i feel overwhelmed just now x

    I'm sorry Christine.

    Do consider giving our cancer nurses a call to talk things through. Whilst you are being the strong auntie, our nurses will be the pillar of strength and support you need as they help you work through your worries and concerns, which will hopefully help you feel a little less overwhelmed by everything that's going on.

    If you haven't done so already, you can also reach out to your GP for further support and advice as well as Bowel Cancer UK, Carers UK, and Marie Curie. All these charities understand the many challenges being a carer can bring and have so many resources available to help family members in your position.

    It may help to make the girls aware of all the support that is available too.
