Treatment - when is it too late to have any? Mum is still waiting for tests and I'm worried the longer this goes on, the less chance of treatment

Hi. When is it too late for treatment. My mum has been having scans and tests since February. She has a lung biopsy and now she’s needing a kidney biopsy but we’re still waiting for an appointment. She has now had an appointment come for Thursday to see her urologist?? Do they do biopsies?? Why would the oncologist send her back to the urologist? Would it be because the lung node came back as not a metastatic kidney cancer! I just want her treatment to start so she can begin to feel a bit better. I’m worried the longer this goes on the less they’ll be able to do. They’ve already said it’s not curable but treatable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

  • Hello and welcome. Ask the team what the plan is.

  • I'm sorry to hear your mum is still in the process of having tests Faye01. This must be incredibly frustrating but I hope your mum's appointment with the urologist went well today and you were able to get some much needed answers and peace of mind.

Although our members can't answer the questions you've asked in your post, some of them will definitely know what it's like to be in this position and hopefully it won't be long until you receive some support and advice.

If it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and address any other worries or concerns you have at this time.

We're sending you all our support Faye01, and we'll have our fingers crossed your mum will be able to start having treatment soon.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
