A quick brief outline of the horrendous start to the year, at Christmas my Dad was told he had Lung Cancer, the same week my sister-in-law got diagnosed with Uterine Cancer, we got over Christmas then in January dad had a biopsy which confirmed SCLC and my sister-in-law also had a total hysterectomy, dad was told he could only have light chemotherapy as they didn't think he would be able to tolerate a lot, he also has COPD, so up to last weds he had 4 lots of chemotherapy, my sister-in-law started her very heavy chemotherapy about a week or so ago, and it made her quite poorly but she is feeling a little better now, however 3 weeks ago my mum and dad lost their house in a house fire it was totally destroyed so they have had to stay at the pub in the village where they live, mum then had a fall was taken to hospital and found to have fractured the top of her left arm, she discharged herself against their advice at at 2:30am had another fall, back in A&E and they did a full body scan, they found an old chip in her hip bone, 3 old fractures in her spine (which now we know that was causing all her backache but she wouldn't go to the doctor's) a small blood clot, a 2mm Aortic Aneurysm and a mass in the top lobe of her left lung, they admitted her to hospital and she is not very well, the second fall affected her a lot, the ward got Novovirus so it closed for visitors, mum got that on top of everything else, she weighs only 6st 3oz and is very frail, the Respiratory Consultant came and told her she had lung cancer and her lymph nodes are very enlarged so it has spread, he can't do a biopsy or use a camera as he thinks she wouldn't be able to tolerate it and he also said he couldn't offer her Chemotherapy as she is too frail and it would be too much for her, she has no muscle mass either which he said makes it harder as he weight is so low, the doctors on the ward are trying to get her to walk as they are concerned about her lack of muscle, it has been devastating news and I can't imagine how she is feeling especially having no visitors since last tuesday due to the ward closure, my dad is struggling with his treatment and we are waiting for his scan results to see if it has slowed the progression down, it took some persuasion to get him to try chemotherapy because he didn't really want it in case it made him poorly, which he was this morning but now with mum as well he may just give up, it has been an awful year so far and I am at my wits end, I don't know what to do, dad is in the pub in the village where I live, I said to him this morning to come stay with me for a bit but he doesn't want to, mum is 20 some miles away in hospital and my husband is about 12 miles away in a residential care home as he has dementia, I am one person and I can't split myself into 3, when I am with one I can't be with the other two, my dad is 88, my mum is 85 and my husband is 67, they all need me it is so difficult
