Nlphl - my son was diagnosed at just 16 years old. He's had treatment but due to his latest test results I'm so worried he might be relapsing

I need help and information my son was diagnosed in 2022 ages just 16, had a few operations and radiotherapy but now there a mass on the spleen, abnormal liver test alt, ast and Ggt, a long with low img, I can’t help but assume it’s back or even worse it’s transformed, I can’t help sleep or eat over it, he’s just after a liver biopsy and currently waiting on results, I’m absolutely convinced he’s relapsing! Seriously struggling to sleep and function atm, I just have that gut feeling like I did the time around

  • Hello Tanyay131,

I am so sorry to hear that you son was diagnosed with NLPHL at such a young age. There is some information on our website on NLPHL which I hope you will find useful. It must be such a worrying time for you after noticing this mass on the spleen and with these abnormal liver test results. As a parent, you are understandably concerned about relapse and keen to have answers and it's not surprising that this is affecting your sleep and appetite.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the results and that it will all turn out to be nothing of concern. While you are waiting - and the wait can feel endless at times - I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for news

If you find that your quality of life or sleep is being seriously impacted, it might be worth talking to your GP about it and seeing whether they may have some good tips for you to help you cope in the coming days.

Our nurse helpline is also open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed this bank holiday Monday) so if there is anything you would like to talk through, don't hesitate to get in touch with our nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040.

We're keeping everything crossed for your son and if you get moment, give us a little update when you find out more. I really hope that you will get reassuring news soon.

    Best wishes,
