Mum diagnosed with mesothelioma

My mum has been diagnosed with epithelioid mesothelioma. She is in good health and has been offfered immunotherapy

She looks so well and no real symptoms. Feels unreal but how much good health can she expect. I know it’s an impossible question to answer

  • Heya.

This is the number to call 0808 800 4040. Call tomorrow to talk with a nurse. They can offer you advice. Good luck. We are all here with you and welcome to the forums.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat H24, although I'm sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis.

As you say, the question you've asked is one we're unfortunately unable to answer but as bone-cancer-patient has mentioned, our team of cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to speak with them. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to address your concerns and put your mind at ease about what's to come.

I hope this information we have about mesothelioma and immunotherapy for mesothelioma will be useful as well and that some of our members who have been on this journey or had this treatment will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  •  No issue. I hope you’re ok today. Let us know what happens next.

  • My husband has the same diagnosis, we were told exactly a year ago. He has been on immunotherapy since July last year and, so far, is doing well. The immunotherapy is slowing it down and giving us more time together. We do as much as possible while we can and make the most of every day. It has been difficult to get my head round it, especially when he’s still reasonably well, having said that he does get very tired. Simple days out, doing normal things helps us both cope.  We book a few days away, at an adult only place close to us, and both of us sleep a lot while there. We don’t go far any more so we can get to doctors/hospital if necessary. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out, there is loads of help available. Everyone is different and reactions to the situation and also to the immunotherapy are different. Sending you best wishes x
