Immunotherapy treatment

Hi everyone.

My husband has just started immunotherapy treatment for inoperable squamous cell carcinoma on his scalp, just had his 2nd session, already showing signs of side effects.

I am struggling to stay positive, and feel so low, but it is hard when trying to stay strong for him.

    I too have incurable cutaneous SCC,  surgery not an option its spread to far and to bones, lung. Radiotherapy not an option as Ive previously had the area treated. Lots of surgery to head scalp, neck, parotid gland removed. Last option  is immunotherapy with Cemiplimab. I had a very strong response to the first cycle. The oncologist was worried about the possibility of severe side effects and halted the treatment for 2 cycles (6weeks) Since restarting side effects are a rash and fatigue both of which are manageable. Im 18 months into treatment and some cancer has vanished and other areas are stable. If your husband can keep with it and his care team mitigate any side effects his outlook is quite good.     Thankyou for your message.

    My husband's situation sounds very much like yours, can't have any more surgery due to soft bones in scalp after lot's of previous surgery to remove tumour's and had high doses of radiotherapy so that's not an option.

    He is also having cemiplimab just had 2 session and it does look like the tumour is shrinking.

    He is already showing signs of liver and kidney issues, and his platelets have increased.

    All just abit concerning as he has rheumatoid arthritis and had 2 previous TIA's in the past.

    The hospital are monitoring it all having a lot of regular blood tests, fingers crossed things get a bit easier!

    Hard to stay positive sometimes!
