Symptomatic treatment - mum's just been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Seeing consultant next week to discuss treatment options

My 83 year old Mum has just been diagnosed with stage II breast cancer, eostrogen receptor and HER2.  She isn't in the best of health, suffering from bronchiectasis so has a persistent chesty cough.  She has been advised chemo, lumpectomy or total mastectomy and chemo as options but she does not want either of these and has opted to start Anastrazole.  My daughter and both both in nursing profession but feel that she would be so ill with the chemo that we support her decision.  We are going to see Consultant again next week to discuss the options again, I feel that Mum is just overwhelmed and as she lives with me and my husband I just want to support her through this shock.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Arizonasky although I'm sorry to hear your mum has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.

This must have been very difficult news to receive but I'm glad treatment is available and I hope you and your mum are able to get all your questions answered when you see the consultant again next week to discuss this in more detail.

I hope this information we have for family, friends and caregivers will be useful but if you would like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about any of this, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all that they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have been through this will offer their support and advice to you soon, but in the meantime we're thinking of you and wishing you all the best for next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
