Hello,
I don't know how to start this, except that it's been a tough week. Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 tubo-ovarian/peritoneal cancer (with metastasis to peritoneum and omentum) last summer. Initially we were given a 3-5 year (or more) prognosis with treatment. Mum went on 6 cycles of carboplatin & paclitaxel, then a laporoscopy last month to see if surgery was possible. Apparently not, because the cancer was now surrounding both bowels. So the plan was to go on niraparib for as long as allowed/possible. Mum was on niraparib for 2 days, and then suddenly started bleeding heavily. So she was admitted into the hospital & has been there for the previous 2 weeks.
Well, another CT scan was done & now the cancer is in (or on, couldn't really remember) her stomach. She previously had an ascites drain fitted in, and now has a ryles tube to train fluid from her stomach. She has not been eating, and is on IV fluids.
The issue is her MDT have now folded in the towel, and said they have no more treatments to offer her. She's now been officially diagnosed terminal. We've tried asking if there's any other drugs or trials she could go on, but they've said no as they don't feel she's well enough.
My question is - does anyone know of a reputable medical team/professional/consultant who has worked on such cases? We are not ready to give up without looking around. We would prefer any referrals within the UK, but open to overseas if needed.
Thank you.
