Oesophageal cancer

Hi

Newbie here, dad got diagnosed with early oesophageal cancer around 6 months ago. He underwent a few rounds of chemo and responded really well, even putting on weight and they advised it hadn’t spread.

Fast forward to just over a week ago he was due to have operation to remove however they had to stop as his stomach was stuck, they could not see any cancer however biopsy been sent for testing which is going to take weeks. He felt ill a few days before op and even got sick, we put this down to nerves however it was obviously not the case. They said there was inflammation too and a blockage, they removed brown liquid from his tummy and he was able to eat so got discharged.

He has now been getting sick, bring up brown liquid however no food, he is not being able to eat much either. He has also had hiccups for last few hours.

Really worried about what to do. We will phone his nurse tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?

thanks in advance

  • Hello Trac44,

A warm welcome to our forum! I am so sorry to hear all this has been happening to your poor dad and that he has been getting sick and bringing up this brown liquid. That combined with the fact he is not eating much I think it would not be a bad idea to either phone the nurse tomorrow or if you feel things are not improving today or overnight you could also ring 111 for out of hours medical advice. Don't hesitate also to ring 999 if you feel it warrants immediate medical attention. I can understand why you are feeling worried and it might be worth seeking reassurance sooner rather than later. Do mention the medical context to what is happening when you speak to a medical expert, that they removed brown liquid from his tummy and got discharged but that since being home he has been getting sick and is bringing up that brown liquid and is not eating much and that he has been getting those hiccups for a few hours.

I hope that things improve for him quickly and that you manage to talk to someone soon and seek medical advice. Hopefully others who have experienced something similar will come and say hello and share their insights with you.

    Best wishes,
