I have stage 4 lung cancer and caring at home for partner who is end stage pancreatic cancer - I'm fatigued and stressed. Where can I get extra support?

Does anyone know where my first point of contact for extra support would be? I’m fatigued and stressed with the situation and my daughter says I should flag my situation up. Would you suggest the hospice he’s under first or macmillan? Any advise would be gratefully accepted. This is so difficult

  • My husband had pancreatic cancer.  My advice to you would be to try both.   Maybe MacMillan first.  Your support for your husband is vital so they should both listen to you and offer sensitive and practical help.  It is a difficult time for you all and they can hopefully make it a bit easier on you.   My thoughts are with you.

  • Hi Tunefil,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

This must be hard for you. There are different ways that you can seek help. Contact your GP, your husband's hospital care team, the hospice or a social worker. All four should be able to arrange the right sort of help for you, depending on your needs. We had carers coming in four times a day to attend to my mother-in-law's personal needs, when it all got too much for the family to cope. We were also offered someone to sit with her overnight, although we managed, without having to resort to this.

I do hope that you manage to get this situation sorted soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
