On Chemo for Lymphoma and infection keeps returning

My dad is 74 and very recently diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma. He has had his first round of chemo but is now in and out of hospital with a fever which is always an infection. He’s been in hospital for a week over Christmas on antibiotics and then was sent home for only 12 hours before he’s got a temperature again and has been admitted to hospital again!

is this common when having chemo treatment? Has anyone else been through this please I am so worried.

  • Hello Natalie44

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has been struggling with an infection since starting chemotherapy. Treatment can leave people more susceptible to infections. Hopefully, the hospital has been able to get a better handle on managing the infection, but don't be afraid to mention this to his specialists before his next round of treatment.

If it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope that your dad is feeling better soon.

    Best wishes,
