Advice for touching loved one on Etoposide

Hi there, I have searched the forum and cannot find previous questions or answers on this topic.

We have just found out that my partner's aunt is nearing the end of her life, and he has gone to be with her. She is being treated with Etoposide and has been saying to her family that it is dangerous for them to touch her, so they have not been able to give her kisses or hugs, etc. I am trying to find out if this is correct, as it seems an awful time to be physically isolated. I suspect she has got this slightly wrong, so I would appreciate it if anyone could clarify this for me, in particular by providing a link to any reputable sources I could send them.

Many thanks in advance

  • Hi RandJ,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. We have some information on Etoposide on our website, which may be useful.

You may also find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses, who should be able to advise on this. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Best wishes,
